Beginning Sunday January 1st, 2023 (which was a holiday), the student loan servicer responsible for facilitating the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program began sending notifications to successful PSLF Waiver candidates that their loans have been forgiven in full. Fedloan Servicing, the previous student loan servicer responsible for PSLF administration had sent these notifications by email and/or documentation in a borrowers Fedloan account. MOHELA, the servicer now responsible for PSLF administration, has been sending these notifications out via U.S. Mail only. In the past few weeks, many Hope Credit clients who are eligible for forgiveness under the PSLF Waiver have contacted us to verify that the correspondence is legitimate. We are able to confirm with great jubilation that the letters are legitimate.

What does this mean for Hope Credit borrowers?

If you are a Hope Credit client who is eligible for PSLF based on your employer (government or non-profit organizations), please look out for physical mail coming from MOHELA or the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). In addition, please contact your Hope Credit case worker to ensure that your current mailing address is the same address on file with the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). MOHELA is using the most recent mailing address from the DOE. Most PSLF eligible clients were transferred to MOHELA after the sudden exit of Fedloan from the student loan servicing business at the end of 2022. Even if you had updated your mailing address with Fedloan, MOHELA may revert back to the most recent address on file with the DOE.

Client Testimonial

Hope Credit is a great resource.

They were very supportive in filling out and submitting documents for my loan forgiveness. In the end besides my loan being completely forgiven, I received a refund for over payment. Kudos to Anita for her support and recommendations of what papers and applications to fill out. Thank you very much for all you did. One less debt as I retire! HOORAY!!!
